Many of our neighbors right here in Montgomery County are hurting, and you can do something to help.

Requests for food at the Manna Food Center this November were 56% higher than in November of 2007. Foreclosures, child neglect cases, requests for food stamps and assistance with utility payments...all the indicators of real need are skyrocketing in our County. Montgomery’s historic commitment to people in need has seldom been as tested as it is today.

The conventional wisdom in many of our more affluent neighborhoods is that there isn’t much poverty in Montgomery County. In fact, our general affluence has masked pockets of real poverty throughout the County. Here is our chance to tell the real story and to engage thousands of people in a campaign to help our neighbors in need. Even in these difficult times, there is great wealth in Montgomery County.

Now is the time for those of us who are able to help our neighbors in need. This is our chance to answer President-Elect Obama’s call for a new spirit of service and sacrifice right here at home.
